As Digital India marches forward, digital technology is making deep inroads into brick-and-mortar libraries and the difference between physical and digital libraries are fast receding. This entails the librarians and library professionals to be exposed and equipped with appropriate digital technologies for efficient and effective functioning. Further, software technology has embraced the open-source paradigm for community-based development and sharing.

In this context, Central Library, IIT Kharagpur and NDLI organize the National Workshop for Open-Source Software for Library Management every year to train librarians and library professional in open source software (like Linux, Koha, DSpace, etc.) in management of library, content, and information. It is a five-day workshop conducted by experts from Central Library, IIT Kharagpur and NDLI. Every topic is dealt with in theoretical presentations and hands-on demonstration and practice. The training material and the required software are also provided in CDs. At the end of the training the participants are given certificates jointly from Central Library, IIT Kharagpur and NDLI.
